Amman, May 8 – The Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) announced the launch of the first edition of “The School Athletics Championship” as part of its Pathway to Sustainable Community Development. The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Jordan Athletics Federation.
According to a CPF statement, the championship targets male and female students in public schools in Jordan from grades 6 through 12 and will focus on track and field running events. The initiative aims to encourage student engagement and support the discovery and development of athletic talent across the Kingdom’s governorates.
The championship will begin with in-school qualifiers followed by district and then regional level competitions, and will culminate with ministry level finals which will be held in Amman next September.
CPF stated that the races will be held according to age groups and grade levels, taking into consideration the physical abilities of each stage.
The launch of this championship represents a strategic step toward promoting a culture of athletics in schools and strengthening its role in supporting physical fitness and mental health. It also aims to develop school sports, build a base of young athletes, and instill values such as self-confidence, discipline, and team spirit.
The initiative also seeks to empower educational workers by providing the necessary training to organize events efficiently thereby ensuring the initiative’s sustainability in the long term.
